The Peggy Guggenheim Museum History dates back to the 18th century. The Palazzo Venier dei Leoni was a palace which was the home of the American heiress Peggy Guggenheim. She lived there for three decades. In 1951, she started showing people her collection of modern artworks seasonally. In 1979, after her death, it passed on to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation. The collection was opened year round from 1980 onwards by the foundation.
